Hi, I have a client with a complete MAC based infrastructure.
When they do updates to their OS 10.3.9 or newer systems the PA5 client goes missing and has to be reloaded.
I am by no means a MAC expert, my primary realm is Windows and Linux (Yes, I know there are similarities between Linux and MAC :) ).
Will upgrading to PA6 resolve this issue for my client?
Print Audit Support
In some cases, Print Audit 5 Mac will work fine for a while, and then will suddenly stop tracking some or all printers from one or more computers on the network.
Cause 1: Operating System Updates / Patches
Some of the official Apple Operating System Updates and Security Patches for Mac OS X (Any version), contain updates to the printer spooler. These updates can cause Print Audit 5 to stop tracking some or all printers depending on the details of the update.
Cause 2: Printer Driver Installation / Updates
Some printer drivers reconfigure parts of the printer spooler when they are installed or updated. This can cause Print Audit 5 to stop tracking some or all printers.
Cause 3: Macs running in a managed environment
Macs that are running in a managed environment will sometimes be "reset" as part of updates applied to the environment, or periodic maintenance tasks run in the environment. This reset can affect the printer spooler, and cause Print Audit 5 to stop tracking. This seems to happen more often with Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) than it does with 10.4 (Tiger), even on the same network. We have not seen this with Mac OS X 10.3 but it is possible.
Run the Print Audit 5 Repair Utility. The Print Audit 5 Repair Utility is installed on every Mac that has Print Audit 5. No matter which of the 3 causes above is the source of the problem, the Print Audit 5 Repair Utility will fix the issue with the spooler.
